Wanted: People to adopt people from disaster afflicted areas

Rabbis for Human Rights has established Project Chazek v’Ametz / Empower! Adopt!: People for People.

“..and the human being you shall empower/adopt..”

Psalms 80:18

Empower! Adopt!: People for People connects people in distress who reside in disaster afflicted areas with people who are willing to adopt them into their homes and communities, and provide them with shelter and physical, emotional and material support.

Empower! Adopt!: People for People is in need of individuals and families who are willing to adopt people from areas that are currently being shelled, and host them in their homes and communities.

Empower! Adopt!: People for People focuses on individuals with special needs, including the elderly, the poor, the physically / mentally / emotionally challenged, the developmentally disabled, new immigrants, indentured servants, people with pets, people with special dietary needs and people who often to not have the means, the ability, the documentation or the necessary connections to be eligible for shelter from other NGO’s and governmental agencies.

How you can help

  • Let us know how many people who can host, and what type of people you have the capabilities to host. (For example if your house is accessible to people who use wheelchairs, and you are willing to host them, let us know).
  • If you are willing to take care of the elderly, or can host people with special dietary needs, families with small children or pets, let us know.
  • If you can host people from different faith or ethnic communities let us know.
  • If you are unable to host but can help in providing food, clothing, medicines, toys, blankets, mattresses, or transportation, let us know.
  • If you know of a particular person or family in distress as is in need of “adoption” let us know.

Donations are also accepted, and will be used to help defray the costs of transporting the people in need to their host families.

Empower! Adopt!: People for People is under the auspices of Shomrei Mishpat: Rabbis for Human Rights, the Israel Interfaith Association, Ruach Hamidbar, Ahavi and numerous professional organizations and individuals who provide Immediate Material Aid and Services, Short Term Trauma Relief and Long Term Habilitation/Rehabilitation.
