Olive Tree Campaign

Olive Tree Campaign

The olive tree, whose branch is a traditional symbol of peace, has in fact become a source of strife in the Holy Land. Hoping to make the orchards peaceful once again, Rabbis for Human Rights plants trees where they have been uprooted and in areas threatened by expropriation. By coordinating with the Israeli security forces and the local Palestinian population, and through the physical presence of its members and volunteers, Rabbis for Human Rights helps guarantee Palestinians’ access to their trees while reducing the number of violent incidents and acts of theft during the harvest season. Rabbis for Human Rights won a major victory in August of 2006 when the Israeli Supreme Court ruled in favor of its petition demanding that Israel guarantee Palestinian farmers access to their lands. Rabbis for Human Rights sells olive oil for Palestinians who encounter difficulty in marketing their produce.
