Noah: Knowing how to protest and to effect change

According to the Midrash God dispersed the builders of the tower because they fried when a brick fell, but the did not care if a person fell to his death. On Monday a rabbinic delegation from RHR-North America will begin to rebuild the Dari home. This is one of the homes for which I was put on trial because I tried to block the bulldozers coming to demolish it. This is a different sort of construction than the building of the Tower of Babel, building which emphasizes the inherent self worth of every human being. Another Midrash tells us that Noah protests to God after Noah sees the level of destruction. God asks him not to complain when he (Noah) did nothing to protest beforehand. We learn in Tractate Sanhedrin that a person will be held liable for every opportunity s/he had to protest and did not do so. The rebuilding of the Dari home is a way to protest the home demolition policy.

May it be Your will that we will always be among those who know both to protest and to effect change.
